1. Aoraki/Mount Cook

My preferred place to go to in the South Island is Aoraki (Mount Cook). Regardless of the season, seeing this mountain up close is a sight to behold and definitely one of the best places to see in the South Island.

There are likewise fjords to find in this part of the island!

4. Roys Peak, Wanaka

It is the most popular day hike in New Zealand, it is that way for a reason. Do not miss the possibility to see this iconic view neglecting Lake Wanaka if you are in shape and able. The walking will take around 8 hours return from the base parking lot.

5. Queenstown

You cant come to New Zealands south island and not go to Queenstown. Queenstown is the center of the south island and where lots of travellers fly into.

6. Kawarau Gorge

Queenstown is considered as the experience capital of New Zealand and a number of the activities available occur in and around Kawarau Gorge. Whether youre looking to bungy dive or walk the suspension bridge for something less bold, theres something for everybody.

7. Dunedin

Dunedin is among the most unexpected cities to go to in New Zealand and somehow still off the beaten path! When I visited Dunedin a variety of residents ask “why?” and I just stated, “why not!?” This beachside city has a young student population, so there are a lot of inexpensive bars and excellent coffee shops. I will always remember awakening at a totally free camping zone to the sounds of the ocean and this million dollar view.

8. The Road to Aoraki/Mount Cook

The journey to Aoraki/Mount Cook can be a long one, unless naturally you are originating from Twizel. Whatever the case, make sure to take your time as you make your last technique. This is one of the most picturesque drives in the South Island of New Zealand.
