by Julie Glover

Ive read books about it, talked with other authors about what worked and what didnt, and attempted different approaches. Ive mulled over publishing industry changes, book signings and tours, internet tools, and social media. Ive learnt more about Facebook advertisements, Amazon ads, and dipped my toe into the BookBub world.

Ive considered marketing a lot.

Among the finest sources for marketing details is this blog site right here! Heres just a sampling of author marketing posts you can discover on Writers in the Storm:

And then I crap out.

I may have a fantastic marketing method, all the tools I require to make it occur, and the budget to boot. I start with dollar signs in my eyes and visions of readers devouring my stories with satisfied smiles on their faces.

Regardless, marketing is my least preferred part of being an author, and Im not good at following through with big strategies.

I typically make huge plans and after that dont follow through.

But Heres the Problem …

Sometimes immediately, often much later.

Whats the Best Plan?

When you hate running down the street, theres no point in telling yourself that youll run a marathon. If you have vertigo and two left feet, nor should you take up ballroom dancing.

Sift Through Advice.

Lots of authors are naturally talented online marketers, others are terrific students who apply savvy recommendations with success, and yet others are just proficient at getting the needed jobs done. Helpful for you!

Whether youre a sales genius or a humiliating failure, I can inform you the finest strategy for you. After a lot of screwing up, I finally bore in mind that saying that the best exercise program is the one that you will do.

Its the same with composing. If you wish to do it, you will. If you dont, you ultimately will not.

The finest marketing plan is the one you will do.

Remember how you informed yourself at the start of a worldwide pandemic that this was your chance to reacquaint yourself with the treadmill? You followed through with the thing you really desired to do.

If youll sort through all book marketing recommendations with this in mind, you can conserve yourself a lot of heartache. Ask yourself questions like:

In other words– as my Gen-Z boys have frequently said– you do you. (” As if I could do anyone else,” mutters their Gen-X mom.).

Which necessary tasks should I hire?
Do not like it? Cant do it well? Still require it done? Employ it out! Like you can get assist with writing that blurb or hire somebody to do your Amazon advertisements. Whatever requires doing– short of writing the book– somebody out there can do it for you.

What rate is sensible for me to achieve jobs?
Get real with yourself about what marketing will look like, provided your character and lifestyle. Not everyone can run the author marketing sprint.

Which jobs do I delight in doing?
What do you eagerly anticipate doing? Book finalizings do not work for numerous authors, however I know one who loves this one-on-one interaction so much that she becomes a sales powerhouse at signings.

What are my marketing strengths?
Embrace those wise marketing methods that use your talents. My coauthor and I have found that I suck at doing ads but Im fantastic at managing our Facebook group. We each play to our strengths.

What would success really appear like for me?
Consider what results you can expect provided who you are and what youll do. If that image is not the success you want, revisit the points above. Reconfigure the plan up until you have something that represents who you are, what you desire, and what you will actually, honest-with-yourself total.

What marketing is required or preferable and what isnt?
Some things you have neither talent nor interest are still required jobs. For example, you are not needed to be on social networks, however you must compose a blurb for your book.

What marketing strategy ideas have you found out that you will and wont do? What changes have you made or require to make?
